From the Black Bean Tree go back to the junction, turn left and follow the path past the sundial towards the foot bridge. Turn left and continue along the path to find the Queensland Pittosporum (Pittosporum rhombifolim), also commonly known as Holly Wood and Diamond Leafed Pittosporum. It is a hardy small tree in cultivation but is naturally found in dry and subtropical rainforests in northern NSW and QLD. Its glossy diamond shaped leaves, clusters of white flowers in summer and orange fruits with black seeds in autumn and winter, make it an attractive landscaping plant.
“I belong in Hollywood – not here in Albury- Wodonga with the WORST neighbours ever. Those trees play heavy metal music ALL day long – they don’t even use their air -pods.”
The Holly Wood tree: "Oh you found me! I was starting to wonder if you would ever arrive, I know it’s a bit tricky to find me all the way up the back. Certainly, feels like I’m dripping more in drains than in diamonds!
That Flame Tree over there thinks that he is the famous one because a band called Cold Chisel, wrote a song about him. But I am a part of the Pitt family you know! Like Brad Pitt? A PITTosporum! I belong in Hollywood – not here in Albury- Wodonga with the WORST neighbours ever. Those trees play heavy metal music ALL day long – they don’t even use their air -pods.
I have won so many awards for being an attractive landscaping plant, but I feel that I have so much more to give. One day people will see me for the star that I am! I’ve been practicing my award acceptance speech and I’d love an audience - do you mind? Ah hem. I wood like to thank the academy…Get it? Wood. Ha ha, I have come a long way, from my native habitat of subtropical rainforests in northern NSW and Queensland. I’d love to thank Mick and Dylan and all the gardening team in Albury that keep my leaves so glossy all year round and make my bed so comfortable. I would like to thank all the visitors to the gardens – especially those who make the effort to come and see my blossoms in full bloom. Thanks to them, I believed that a little tree from the country could make it big in the Hollywood. How was that?"
