The wall of hundreds of hand-crafted knitted, crocheted or felted poppies has been enjoyed by visitors since it was created in 2015.

Honouring the fallen in Australia’s wars, the display was created by members of the community as a project begun by local women, Jan Hunter and Judi Garvie, and was installed as part of Albury’s commemoration of the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign.

The original installation coincided with the exhibition, The Trumpet Calls – Albury’s WWI Battery, and has since been used for many official events, including author talks and exhibition launches.

In 2018, it was formally acquired into the AlburyCity Collection in recognition of its importance to the community.

However, due to the damaging effects of sunlight and other factors, the artwork has been removed for cleaning, storage and preservation to ensure it is conserved for future generations.
