Mitch Hibbens

Mitch is undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne, he loves writing poetry as an escape from the outside world.

Mitch Hibbens is a Queer Wiradjuri person living and working on country. For well over a decade Mitch has been involved in the health and education sectors. His engagement in any space is guided by strong cultural values which centre Indigenous sovereignty and Indigenous people’s rights to self-determination. Mitch has worked in Community Controlled Health Orgs, Public Health, and Higher Education. Currently, he is working in the fields of Indigenous Economic sovereignty and Indigenous Leadership. He is undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne.

Outside of academia, Mitch writes poetry, finding time to write as an escape from the outside world. Most recently he won the inaugural Naomi Williams Wiradjuri Poetry Prize. He has shared some of his words through contributions to IndigenousX and The Guardian and writes as an act of intellectual sovereignty.
