Six participants have been chosen for the first Write around the Murray festival Masterclass with Debra Adelaide on the weekend of 6 & 7 August.  The participants come from Cudal, Young, Wagga Wagga, Sydney and Albury during the Write around the Murray Festival – 5 – 9 August 2009.

The Write around the Murray festival is five days of inspiring author talks, events, a schools program and workshops. The workshop program for writers at all levels is continually developing, and this year we’re proud to announce the festival’s first masterclass.

The MasterclassThis is a program designed for experienced writers who already have a substantial work in progress, of either fiction or non fiction, and who are keen to explore ways to develop and/or complete their work. The masterclass program will concentrate on two vital aspects of writing - voice and structure. It will examine aspects of the writing and revising process through readings, discussions and workshopping. A portion of the program on day two will be devoted to individual consultations.

The two day program will be held at Hothouse Theatre’s Month In the Country; a farmhouse in a quintessential Australian setting just outside Albury.

The FacilitatorDebra Adelaide is a novelist and academic, who has also worked as a book reviewer and editor. In 1990 Debra completed a PhD in Australian women’s writing at the University of Sydney. She is the author of the novels The Hotel Albatross (1995) and Serpent Dust (1998), and editor of several other books including anthologies and reference books on Australian literature. Her most recent novel, The Household Guide to Dying (2008), is the story of a domestic advice columnist, Delia Bennet, who, diagnosed with cancer, begins writing a guide for the dying. Debra is currently on leave from her position as senior lecturer in creative writing at the University of Technology, Sydney, where she teaches in the postgraduate and research creative writing program.
