Libby Gleeson writes picture books, novels and short stories for young people as well as books about writing. Her work has been short listed for the Children’s Book Council of Australia wards eleven times. Hannah Plus One was the Junior Book of the Year in 1997, An Ordinary Day, illustrated by Armin Greder won Picture Book of the Year in 2002 and Amy and Louis illustrated by Freya Blackwood was Early Childhood Book of the Year in 2007. The Great Bear, illustrated by Armin Greder is the only Australian title to ever win the prestigious international award, the Bologna Ragazzi.
Her most recent titles are Writing Like a Writer, published by PETA and Mahtab’s Story, the tale of a young girl and her family escaping from the Taliban to what they hope will be freedom in Australia.
Libby is active in writers’ organisations and is a past Chair of the Australian Society of Authors. She is chair of the Literature and History Committee, Arts NSW. In 2007, Libby was awarded an AM for services to literature and literacy education.
